Irby Superintendents’ Meeting is a Success

Irby Construction hosted the company’s Annual Superintendents’ Meeting on Wednesday, May 24 and Thursday, May 25 in Biloxi, MS at the Beau Rivage Casino and Resort. Irby President Lee Jones kicked off the meeting at 8 AM on Wednesday. With an audience of roughly 90 people, he gave attendees a warm welcome, a summary of the past year and a high-level overview of several projects and opportunities for our company in the near future.

A series of speakers gave department-specific company updates. Presentations included Safety and Training, Operations, Equipment, Recruitment, Legal, Business Development, Marketing, Accounting and Human Resources.

As Irby employees, we were fortunate to have a few Quanta Corporate employees in attendance as guest speakers as well. Newly appointed Quanta Vice President of Health, Safety and Environmental, Matt Compher, stressed Safety in all aspects of our company and explained how all employees can benefit as a result. Quanta Vice President of Business Development Matt Mikeska gave insights to how Quanta acts as a support system to Irby along with other operating units, and how our combined capabilities can drive new business opportunities over the next few years. Finally, Quanta Vice President Jody Shea enlightened the audience with motivation and enthusiasm. From Journeyman Lineman to owner of operating unit, to serving as Vice President of Quanta Services, Jody stressed that we should all teach someone something today and lead by example.

Thursday evening, upcoming retirees were honored for their dedication and years of service. Senior Vice President of Operations Charles Gatewood was recognized for 50 years of service, and Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Bob Croft was recognized for 25 years of service.

After two successful days of meetings, updates, presentations, and good food, the meeting adjourned.
